Artistic approach

My paintings are metaphors of my human condition. My love of nature and its components emanates from my works.

Through my creative projects, I stage human and animal actors at the heart of pictorial compositions that are both bucolic and contemporary. Through different strategies, inspired by advertising, religious iconography as well as the natural sciences (mainly biology and geology), I try to dissect certain facets drawn from the vast relational portrait of living things and highlight them. Passionate about philosophy and ethics, I explore behavioral patterns between man, his peers and his environment, often by opposing individualism and gregariousness. My spiritual and ecological values motivate my creation. I believe that we form a whole and this is the basis of my approach; this is why I regularly present correlation links in my works. The issues facing humanity, especially those related to life in the maritime environment, inspire me. At this frenetic time when the world is undergoing many upheavals, I want to create windows of peace that sublimate the banality of everyday life.

I am constantly experimenting with the manipulation of matter when making my acrylic-based works. I want the viewer to experience a sensory experience through these windows where the materiality of the work is omnipresent. Games of textures, impasto, addition versus subtraction, are recurring maneuvers in my creative process. Here is born the contrast between the sometimes flat, sometimes rough surface, the glossy and the matte, all in an organized chaos where abstraction and figuration meet. The result is amplified by the accumulation of paint with other less conventional materials such as sand, lace and various artifacts.

A constant desire for renewal lives in me. I have the impression of repeating, through my approach and my work technique, the natural cycle of life. I am part of a whole.

Organic

To introduce herself, Elyse will always say first that she is from the Magdalen Islands. Being born and growing up in the Magdalen Islands is something that defines her, that influences her vision of life and that stands out through her creation. This proximity to nature and its elements and an awareness of its fragility are reflected in his works. For nearly thirty years, Elyse has devoted her life to her passion: painting.

A graduate of UQÀM in 2002, she has lived exclusively from her art ever since. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Quebec, has to her credit some twenty solo exhibitions, the production of a work as part of the 1%, had her own art gallery in the Iles de la Madeleine and his works can be found in a number of corporate and private collections around the world.

A free and independent artist, she pursues her artistic path with a thirst for renewal, exploration, evolution and above all the pleasure she has in creating and sharing it with people.

Exhibition | WE

These paintings you see here are part of a series arising from my reflections on human nature.

The geese representing us, they become human avatars. I stage them in their interactions with each other and in their relationship with the “invisible”; the world of feelings, of perceptions which, although we cannot see them, materially speaking, exist (abstract part of the painting).

A whole personal technical research was deployed for the realization of these works, games and experiments with various acrylic mediums and I sought to create a plastic experience that is both joyful and sophisticated for the spectator.

I wish you a nice journey through my paintings.
